The many benefits of circuit training

Circuit training involves a group of participants circulating through a number of exercise stations. They perform one to either a set time or to specific repetitions, moving from one to the next. In between these sets, there is very little time to rest. It is a quite intense workout but can be constructed in numerous ways. As a personal trainer, you may wish to consider circuit training if you work with small groups. But what are the benefits of circuit training?

Circuit training is adaptable

One of the great things about circuit training is that you can adapt it to meet the fitness requirements of your clients. They can be developed to focus on cardiovascular, strength, mobility and more. Circuit training also doesn’t require too much space and can be made simple if necessary.

Easy setup

If you have limited time to set up for your group training session, circuits are an ideal solution. Circuit training can be used with weights, kettlebells, boxes, and other bits of equipment. However, body weight is more than enough!

Great for group sessions

As we have already said, circuits are a great way to bring together a group of clients. As long as you have a space to use, whether it be outdoors or indoors, you could set up a circuit for however many clients you can fit. These groups could potentially turn into 1-1 clients if they aren’t already!

Challenge your whole body

From a fitness perspective, circuit training offers a workout for the entire body. By incorporating different “stations” throughout the workout, your clients can focus on different muscle groups. It helps to alternate between lower and upper body, and core moves will allow each muscle group the chance to rest between sets.

Muscular endurance

When you offer circuit training on a weekly basis, you will help your clients enhance their muscular endurance over time. For example, muscular endurance dictates how many pull-ups a client can perform or how many steps they can walk before their legs grow tired. Repetitions in circuit training with little rest throughout encourage the muscles to power through fatigue and build endurance.

Reduces the risk of injury

We’re not saying that you cannot injure yourself during circuit training, this is a possibility in all aspects of life, but it can be a way to manage existing injuries and prevent new ones. If someone has been avoiding a workout or fitness plan as a result of an old injury, then circuits could be a wonderful way for them to get back into it.
